Hi,
hope someone can help me out, i am trying to locate GPedit.msc on my laptop, however when i type in the search box within the start menu- gedit.msc. my pc cant find it.
read a few forums, apparently gpedit does not exist in windows 10 home edition, is this true? is there a way round it?
i am asking due to the fact when i boot up my lappi, after a period of time, the windows explorer file SysWOW64 automatically pops up. and i wanted to create a GP filter to find out which app, service etc etc is causing this problem.
Is there a way around this?
I dont suspect a virus, although my internet connection is slow at the moment, i have GData Internet security installed and also i ran search and destroy spybot yesterday and this did not find any problems.

In order to deny the automatic updating of a specific device's driver, I found out that I can get by this through the Local Group Policy Editor.
I am running Windows 10 Home OEM on my laptop and, since gpedit.msc is not build-in on this version, I installed it following this guide:
Today we are going to share a simple installer which installs the required system files in Windows so that you can enjoy Group Policy Editor in all Windows 7 editions.
- First download the setup file using following link:You'll find the download link in right-side section of the above mentioned page.
- After downloading the ZIP file, extract it using WinRAR or 7-Zip.
- Run the extracted setup.exe file.It will install the files and you'll be able to access gpedit.msc command via RUN or Start Menu search box.
Note:
- For Windows 7 64-bit (x64) users! You'll also need to go to 'SysWOW64' folder present in 'C:Windows' folder and copy 'GroupPolicy', 'GroupPolicyUsers' folders and gpedit.msc file from there and paste them in 'C:WindowsSystem32' folder.
If you are getting 'MMC could not create the snap-in' error message while running gpedit.msc, check out following steps to fix the problem. Basically it happens when your username in Windows contains more than one word.
![Missing Missing](/uploads/1/2/3/7/123702283/517723872.jpg)
- Run the installer and leave it at the last step (do not click on the 'Finish' button).
- Now go to
C:WindowsTempgpedit
folder. - If you are running 32-bit (x86) edition of Windows 7, right-click on x86.bat file and choose 'Open With -> Notepad' option. If you are running 64-bit (x64) edition of Windows 7, right-click on x64.bat file and choose 'Open With -> Notepad' option.
- You'll find a total of 6 lines containing the following string in the file:%username%:f
- Edit those lines and replace
%username%:f
with'%username%':f
For example:
- Save and run the file (right-click -> Run as Administrator).
- That's it. You'll have working gpedit.msc.
Source How to Enable 'Group Policy Editor' (gpedit.msc) in Windows 7 Home Premium, Home Basic and Starter Editions?
After some attempts it worked well, there is just one more step to do after following the guide: If you are still getting 'MMC could not create the snap-in' error message while running gpedit.msc, go to 'C:WindowsTempgpedit' and run Installer.exe as Administrator.
At this point, I can properly run gpedit.msc.
But here comes my problem:For my purposes, I have to go to Local Computer Policy → Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Device Installation → Device Installation Restrictions
Following this path, I can not find the folder Device Installation. In the System folder I have 14 sub-folders, but not the one I need.
I've already tried re-adding system.adm in 'Add/Remove Templates.' right-clicking on Administrative Templates, as well as all the other .adm files.
Any possible solution to add this folder to my gpedit.msc?
Thank you all.

The Group Policy Editor gpedit.msc is only available in Professional and Enterprise editions of the Windows 10 operating systems.
The editor is not included in Windows 10 Home; while it is possible to make many changes in the Registry directly, using the Group Policy Editor is often more convenient, especially when it comes to the discovery of new settings or making multiple changes.
Some tutorials on the Internet provide Group Policy Editor instructions only. Home users have to search for Registry keyslinked to policies in those cases to make those changes to PCs running Windows 10 Home.
Windows 10 Home users could install third-party programs like Policy Plus in the past to integrate Group Policy support in Home editions of Windows.
Update: The method described below adds the Group Policy Editor GUI to the operating system but not the functionality.
Enable the Group Policy Editor on Windows 10 Home
A Reddit user published a batch script today on the Windows 10 board on the site that enables the Group Policy Editor directly on Windows 10 Home systems.
Note that it requires elevated privileges to run since it uses DISM.
Here is the script:
@echo off
pushd '%~dp0'
pushd '%~dp0'
dir /b %SystemRoot%servicingPackagesMicrosoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientExtensions-Package~3*.mum >List.txt
dir /b %SystemRoot%servicingPackagesMicrosoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientTools-Package~3*.mum >>List.txt
dir /b %SystemRoot%servicingPackagesMicrosoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientTools-Package~3*.mum >>List.txt
for /f %%i in ('findstr /i . List.txt 2^>nul') do dism /online /norestart /add-package:'%SystemRoot%servicingPackages%%i'
pause

I have created the file and zipped it. You can download it with a click on the following link: windows-10-home-group-policy.zip
Note: If you have troubles downloading the file, download it from this link instead.
All you have to do is the following to enable gpedit.msc on Windows 10 Home.
- Make sure you create a backup of the system before you make the change. I have tested this on multiple Windows 10 Home PCs and virtual machines and it worked each time without issues. You want to be on the safe side of things, however, so back up before you run the batch file.
- Extract the archive on your system using the built-in zip extractor or a free third-party program like Bandizip or 7-Zip.
- Right-click on the batch file, gpedit-windows-10-home.bat is the name if you downloaded the archive version, and select 'run as administrator' from the context menu.
- Wait until the commands run their course.
- Press any button on the keyboard when asked to do so to exit the command prompt window. The Group Policy Editor should be available now.
- Open Start, type gpedit.msc and see if it pops up as a result.
Now You: do you use the Group Policy Editor?

I have been trying to edit the rights for an account on a Windows 7 Home Pro machine. I would normally use gpedit.msc to to this, but it doesn't seem to be included in the home versions of 7.
What are my options for doing this type of config editing? I'm a developer, not a IT person / sysadmin.

It isn't as pretty as gpedit.msc, but you can download an Excel Spreadsheet that lists all possible group policy settings and their related registry keys. You can then just change the reg key manually.
