Gabe Batstone told Lisa Batstone's sentencing hearing on Wednesday that the people his daughter Teagan loved most in the world were her stepbrother and half-brother, who were eight and two when she died.

'The first questions that they asked shortly after her murder and many times since offer a glimpse into their shattered innocence and raw emotional pain,' he told a British Columbia Supreme Court judge.
' 'Why is my sister in the ground when other kids have sisters at school? Is Teagan's mommy going to kill me too?' '
Lisa Batstone, 46, was found guilty of second-degree murder in March. The court heard she placed a plastic bag over Teagan's mouth and nose in the early hours of Dec. 10, 2014.
She will serve an automatic life sentence but the purpose of Wednesday's hearing was to determine when she will be eligible for parole. The Crown requested 16 to 18 years, while the defence asked for 10.
Gabe Batstone told the judge that Teagan was robbed of seven decades of her life, including milestones such as graduations, marriage and having children of her own.
'Though what haunts you most days is the far more mundane losses of trips to the park, quiet cuddles, comforting hugs, even grocery shopping and just being with Teagan anywhere, any time,' he added.
'The life of a happy, empathetic, funny, caring, innocent, athletic, sensitive and loving child was taken for no reason.'
The father's current wife, Stephanie Batstone, said her bond with Teagan was as strong as those with her biological children. She said she will never recover from having to tell her sons their sister was dead.
For weeks afterward, her younger son screamed and cried in fear when he was left alone with his mother, she said.

'It finally occurred to us that he thought I killed Teagan, because to him, I was Teagan's mom,' she said.
Though the boy has no natural memories of Teagan, he hides photos of her in his room and tells people he has five people in his family, not four. He also keeps toy guns under his pillow as protection, she said.
'We live in fear of Lisa Batstone,' she said.
Her older son saw Teagan as his best friend and 'partner in crime,' she said, adding he had to deal with his own mortality at eight years old and lost his ability to be a kid.
Stephanie Batstone said she used to be a loving mother who put home-cooked meals on the table and played with her sons. Now she suffers from panic attacks and bouts of depression, she said.
'There are times all I can do is make them a sandwich and crawl into bed at 7 p.m.,' she said. 'Teagan's murder stole this from me and my children.'
Crown attorney Christopher McPherson told the court Batstone abused her position of trust to kill a child and has continued to attempt to deflect blame for the death onto her husband.
Defence lawyer Rebecca McConchie said Batstone should be eligible for parole in 10 years, the lowest term possible, because the murder lacks certain aggravating factors, including a significant use of force or previous abuse.
She has dealt with depression and anxiety her whole life, attempting suicide multiple times before the murder, and she has since been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, McConchie said.
Batstone sobbed as she read a statement to the court apologizing to Teagan, her ex-husband and his family.
'I would give anything to go back and change what happened. Each morning I wake up to this excruciating nightmare and I don't know how this is real. I miss my sweet girl so much,' she said.
'I cannot believe that I did what I did. But I know that her death is my fault.'

Justice Catherine Murray reserved her decision until Sept. 3.
The court heard that Lisa Batstone felt resentment toward Gabe Batstone after their divorce in 2010 and in September 2014 she had a falling out with a close friend at church and stopped attending the institution.
The day before Teagan's murder, Lisa Batstone called her ex-husband and he ended the call because it was not an emergency. She complained to her counsellor that he was a 'bully' and 'hung up.'
She smothered her daughter early the next morning. In a four-page letter, she wrote, 'I can't believe I took my daughter's life .. I honestly believe that she's in a better place now with Jesus.'
She placed Teagan's body in her car and began driving, but got stuck in a ditch. First responders found her cradling her daughter's body in the trunk of the hatchback.

As it's a concept designed to be built in the future, some of the technology kinks are still being worked on, but Orkin has stated its intention to see this design through to an actual, real-world product. There are, of course, quite a number of technical hurdles to overcome before that happens and unfortunately the designers do little to shed light on how such difficulties will be dealt with, leaving us to speculate. It requires no great stretch of the imagination to visualize the various technologies already used in dual-screen notebooks, all-in-one computers and cutting edge tablets being incorporated into the Rolltop. Let's Shame some Dispraises: A Victoria II AAR
This is a Victoria II After Action Report. This means I was bored enough to type up a fictional dialog to me playing a Paradox Game. I highly recommend you play this and similar Paradox games, and then bash your head for not understanding how stupid difficult they are. Victoria II is a game that puts you into a country's shoes during the period 1836-1936. Here, you will attempt to industrialize and/or civilize (if you are non-European or American). You also, more likely than not, paint the map your color by annexing and conquering territories that have good resources. Uncivilized nations tend to be at a huge disadvantage to civilized ones. The nation I am playing is Tosa, a substate (basically, vassal) of Shogunate Japan. I am playing with a Mod-New Nations Mod. I also reserve the right to mod in things as I see fit. But it's funnier when people die terribly, so I won't mod in cheats.
1. For Daimyo and Tosa
Tosa Domain. On the poorest island of Japan, the Yamauchi clan has consolidated its control. But the resources of this land are few and its population even fewer. It will take great strength and resolve, as well as opportunism, to make something of this. The tidings of the West approach our isle. We have already began to modernize our country, but not to the extent that our neighbors to the north and west have. Shimazu, the last holdouts against the Shogun, rule the island of Kyushu as Satsuma Domain. Choshu Domain, ruled by the Mori, also has been fairly modernized. We need to change quickly. The Daimyo looks at his finances. The administration of the country is very expensive, and to maintain an army costs further. He decides to disband the army to save income. The Shogun can hardly blame him-it was the Shogun's fault for giving him this poor land in the first place. The Daimyo decides to encourage the growth of Buddhism in the territory. It is hoped that the monks will teach more and more people to read and write, increasing Tosa's ability to modernize. Due to his location, the Daimyo is able to take advantage of some tidings of the West. While official Japanese policy is to kill any foreigner that lands outside of the designated trading port, a ship may stop every now and then on its way to richer lands. The Daimyo does not mind this sort of exchange of ideas. The thought in his mind is to overthrow the Shogun. The Shogun may rule, but he has grown decadent, much like the Ashikaga before them. Like the unifiers of Nobunaga and Hideyoshi, the Tokugawa must be taken down so a new rule can reinvigorate Japan. But for now that is but a dream. Meanwhile, tidings are brought of a similar island, whom has coronated a queen. Perhaps the long-ignored Japanese royalty may be what we need to reinvigorate Japan. Elsewhere, the lands of China and Korea are rich and valuable. Alas, the might of the Chinese Empire is great, and the Koreans are mere puppets of the Manchu Emperor. Perhaps if Tosa is to grow strong, the riches of China and Korea could go to our coffers. A disease strikes the people of Tosa. God. Damn. It. That's 20% of my entire population. FFFUUUUU. It appears that the Chinese are now at war with a great foreign power. This is an opportunity that should be watched closely. If only we Tosa were free to interact with the world as we see fit. After a while, the Daimyo recognizes that the foreigners who call themselves 'Resupanne' have been frequently stopping by. Friendly relations have developed with these sailors, and the occasional Spaniard on an errand turns heads amongst the people. The Spanish bring glass beads to try and extort more valuable resources, but the denizens of Tosa prefer the tortillas they have instead. Combining them with the Ocotopi found often in the waters brings about a new fusion dish, the Tako. Suddenly, the Shogun gives the call to arms. An armada of strange ships arrived, demanding entrance to the harbor. While the Shogun refused (as he should) the foreigners did not concede-they declared war! The strange land they come from, 'Amerika,' is incredibly far away. Or so the Spanish told the Daimyo. It is a land of infinite riches and strange ideas. Perhaps this could be a further avenue of expansion? Meanwhile, nothing important happens. After many months, the Daimyo hears vague news of foreign battles. But the call to arms is quietly dropped. Perhaps the Shogun has gone senile in his old age. What if the Mongols were to invade again? The quiet dying down of the foreign enemy upsets the locals. The restless samurai have called to expel the foreigners and honor the emperor. But the Daimyo of Tosa is wise, and sees further than short-term bloodlust and xenophobia. In Europe, Austria has apparently gotten its shit packed in by Prussia and now the Hungarians. Suddenly, opportunity strikes. The Spanish make a most interesting proposal to the Daimyo. By offering to essentially join the Spanish Empire, the Spanish would be able to use their power to protect the Daimyo from Shogunate repercussions. After consideration, the daimyo decides to take the envoy up with his offer. A few days go by while the Spanish engage the Shogun in talks. (Note: I have no idea what I'm doing here) When the Spanish triumphantly return with news of success, the general populace rises up, furious that they were now under the rule of foreigners. The daimyo, having planned this from the start (not at all, actually), proceeds to blame the Spanish. The people of Tosa, fine patriots, proceed to chase all the Spanish out of Tosa. They are quickly put down by Shogunate forces. Tosa will now be the one to forge its own destiny. (ah.)
1871 proved an uneventful year until May, when an uprising broke out in Austria’s northern Polish provinces, seeking independence for Galicia-Lodomeria. After several months of bitter fighting the Austrian army proved unable to restore order to the province, having effectively lost control by August. France called an international congress to deal with the issue. France, Italy and Belgium all sought independence for Galicia-Lodomeria, unexpectedly soon joined by Russia who, although fearful of its own Polish regions breaking away, stood to benefit from a weakened Austria. Bennison initially hoped Britain could push for autonomy and keep Austria intact as a bulwark against Russia, but noticing the tide of opinion towards independence – with only Prussia, still militarily weakened, supporting the status quo – he instead kept Britain neutral. Austria had no choice but to accept the demands for independence, however Emperor Franz Joseph imposed martial rule across areas with high minority populations in order to prevent copycat rebellions elsewhere.
In November the Ottoman Empire, seeking to restore its lost prestige, launched in invasion on Nejd. Given most European countries regarded this area as an empty desert there was no interest in intervention, leaving the Empire alone to its conquests. In early 1872, the cabinet began discussing political spheres of influence in central Asia regarding Russia, known as the ‘Great Game’. Several ministers advocated pre-emptively incorporating Bukhara into the Empire. Though initially concerned this would provoke Russia too far, Bennison saw the sense in it and gave his approval for an invasion, which began on January 20th. Bukhara fought more fiercely than expected but admitted defeat in May. Meanwhile, facing pressure from a well-funded anti-immigration lobby, Bennison announced that immigration quotas would be introduced in order to keep the ‘indigenous population’ a majority in Britain.
To stay in power, Bennison found himself increasingly needing to rely on reactionary elements of the Conservative Party. These provided an effective veto on constitutional reforms demanded by an increasingly vocal suffrage movement. In September, the Canadian government sent the Prime Minister an official request for Home Rule, to be granted the status of an autonomous nation within the Empire. This went against Bennison’s centralist instincts and he blankly refused the request, causing much agitation across Canada. In early 1873 a colonial governor in Sierra Leone began urging for more territory, citing the colony’s need for economic expansion. Land was attempted to be bought from tribes along the northern coast, however they refused. British settlers began taking the land anyway, culminating in several bloody massacres on both sides across several months. Feeling the need to intervene, Bennison ordered the British army occupy the area on 13th June. Officially only a peacekeeping mission to protect British citizens, this occupation ultimately allowed the area to become settled as part of the Empire.
Meanwhile, Spain was conducting its own colonisation further north, having launched an invasion of Morocco in February. Bennison disapproved but realised he had no grounds to oppose the Spanish actions. Campaigning for the next election began in March 1874. The Conservatives faced a more difficult challenge than their previous two elections, with Bennison’s popularity ratings decreasing. They were still believed to have the lead up until the Liberals, led by the popular William Gladstone, became increasingly seen as a government-in-waiting. He accused the Conservatives of doing nothing to increase living standards and labour conditions over the last nine years, although the Liberals themselves remained committed to laissez-faire economics. The Conservatives ultimately came ahead but their majority was much reduced, leaving the government vulnerable to its backbenchers. “The British people have spoken,” Bennison announced. “They want strong government, prosperity, freedom. They want international power and prestige!” Nevertheless, he was very aware of his weakened position within the party as a result of electoral losses.
In his second term, Bennison was determined to extend the power of the British Empire, particularly across Africa. He believed Britain could act with impunity in colonial affairs so long as no other imperial power was directly threatened. He ordered colonial officers to draw up several plans of how the Empire could be extended. The first he ordered into action was an invasion of Sulawesi, which he saw as revenge for the humiliation they brought upon Britain ten years previously. In December the invasion began. Once Sulawesi was secure in mid-July 1875, Bennison turned his sights towards South Africa and ordered an invasion of Zululand, without consultation with the unrecognised Afrikaner republics. Gladstone painted him obsessed with conquest at the cost of neglecting affairs at home; Bennison claimed he was bringing civilisation to savages and that expanding the Empire would benefit the British economy. In response to these criticisms, Bennison legislated to reduce tarrifs so to improve trade outwith the Empire.
The world was shaken on September 28th by news from Belgium that revolutionaries inspired by the ideas of Karl Marx had seized royal and government buildings in Brussels, though Marx himself to possess no links to the group. Government ministers and the royal family fled to British soil. As the dust cleared it emerged that the revolutionaries had effectively seized control of the country, declaring the world’s first communist state. Foreign assets were seized as industries were nationalised, while military rule was introduced across the country. This was resisted by elements of the military which remained loyal, and a civil war shortly broke out. Bennison, viewing the revolutionaries as a foreign invader, saw the coup as a violation of the 1839 Treaty of London which guaranteed Belgium’s neutrality. Under this pretence he ordered a military invasion to shore up the loyalist army, a move supported across the continent by ruling classes fearful of these revolutionary ideas spreading. The Netherlands provided tactical support, allowing British forces to be based on its territory.
The Belgian Civil War proved slow and bloody. Despite anticommunist forces possessing superior numbers and training, the communists proved surprisingly capable of defending their territory. By March of 1876, six months into the conflict, little ground had been gained. Bennison was forced to call reserve armies into action, whilst appealing for support from Britain’s allies. A coalition was created to include forces from the Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark and Sweden. Prussia also agreed to provide non-lethal support. Two major battles along the Dutch border resulted in overwhelming victories for the allied forces, allowing anticommunist forces to push further into communist-held territory. Nevertheless, the war dragged into the second half of 1876. “I had not expected by second term to be dominated by Belgium!” Bennison commented. In September Brussels finally fell to allied forces and the Communist government fell, though fighting continued in the provinces. On October 31st Bennison announced an end to combat operations, though British occupation of the country would continue.
Seeking to spend the final two years of his second term focusing on domestic matters, Bennison turned his attention to law and order. He set up a new headquarters of the metropolitan police at Scotland Yard, aiming to bring down crime in London. This saw short-term benefits however proved drastically underprepared for an upsurge of militancy during the early winter months of 1877. Grain shortages had seen mass suffering of the people, yet Bennison’s government had refused to act, choosing instead to trust the markets to save the people from their plight. Mostly this militancy was expressed peacefully in protests and strikes, however several riots also broke out. Bennison deployed the army to restore order. To his horror, this developed into a full-scale revolt; towns fell from government control and fighting broke out in cities as rebels, perhaps inspired by their counterparts in Belgium, demanded universal suffrage and nationalised industries. In March, the government was forced to flee the capital as several districts fell under armed rebel control. Relocated in southampton, the Queen declared martial law and granted Bennison full emergency powers.
By April the capital had been brought under control, but large parts of the country remained under control. “We have been assaulted by a global revolutionary conspiracy,” Bennison declared. “This is revenge for our role in Belgium. But we will not be defeated!” In May, militias of 100,000 rebels began attacking army units in and around London. Generals were staggered by the number of rebels, many of whom were foreign. London existed for several months in a state of siege as it fought off these advancing forces. However, on 13th July, rebel forces broke into Buckingham Palace and imprisoned the royal family. Army units began to melt away and shortly afterwards the entire city had fallen to the rebels, who declared a republic based upon the age-old ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity…
